Ed Sheeran fans are being advised to set up a Ticketmaster account to secure tickets for next year's concerts.

Strict purchase rules apply for the gigs in Dublin, Cork, Limerick and Belfast and buying tickets will require phone verification when they go on sale tomorrow at 8am.

The lead booker, as in the name on the tickets, has to be the person attending the concert, the rest of the tickets can be given to friends and family as long as they arrive at the venue together.

If the tickets are gifts, the buyer will have to show up to get the recipients in.

Statement from Ticketmaster: "A key message that Ticketmaster would like to get across to fans is that people should set up a Ticketmaster account, if they haven’t got one already. This will make the purchase of tickets easier and quicker for them.

"They also need to have their mobile phone with them when purchasing tickets as they will be sent a code as part of the process.

"As regards purchasing tickets as a gift, the matching ID of the surname of the lead booker will be an entry requirement. The other tickets bought by that person can be used for other people as long as they ALL arrive with the lead booker. If you want to buy tickets as gifts then you’ll also have to attend to get your recipients into the show."

Ed Sheeran has introduced tough new rules in direct response to the practice of selling on tickets for above face value.

Back in 2018 he cancelled more than 10,000 tickets for his Divide stadium tour when he discovered they were bought by resellers
