Revenue officers have been granted a cash detention order on almost €16,000 in cash believed to be the proceeds of crime.
The money was seized at Dublin Airport last Friday when officers stopped two passengers prior to boarding a flight to Dubai.
The cash is suspected to be the proceeds of, or intended for use in, criminal activity and is detained by Revenue.
Separately last Friday, 28,000 cigarettes were seized at Dublin Airport in the baggage of a man who had arrived on a flight from Frankfurt.
The smuggled cigarettes branded ‘NZ Gold’ have an estimated retail value of €19,500 representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of €15,500.
Investigations into both seizures are continuing.
