Dubliners are being asked to stay within their own county and limit social contacts from today.
It's part of new measures aimed at stopping the spread of the coronavirus.
The capital is on level two of the new five-tier alert system with the rest of the country, but is under additional restrictions due to higher rates of the virus.
However it is likely the county will move to level 3 in the next week after a review by the National Public Health Emergency Team.
Finance Minister Paschal Donohue has admitted that's a real possibility;
"If that happens it will involve change and if we get that advice through from NPHET it's something the government will obviously take very seriously."
357 cases were confirmed yesterday, 218 of them in Dublin. While there were also three deaths.
It was the biggest daily increase in cases since May, with 208 recorded on Monday.
Tougher restrictions
Meanwhile a leading health expert claims it will be impossible to significantly reduce the number of Covid-19 infections without 'dramatic restrictions'.
Eoghan de Barra, a consultant in infectious diseases in Beaumont Hospital, is calling on the public to be vigilant;
"I think its possible to reduce this, to start to see at least a decrease in numbers. I think to actually reverse it back is really impossible without really quite dramatic restrictions on interactions and movement."
