The most significant renovations at St Patrick’s Cathedral in the city in over 150 years have been completed.
Roof slates, gutters and walkways have been replaced, while masonry, glazing and carpentry have been repaired.
Essential fire protection systems have also been upgraded at the cathedral in the city centre.
Government Ministers have inspected the works and the the €9.4 million roof project was part-funded by €1.2 million from the Department of Housing.
The Dean of Saint Patrick’s Cathedral, The Very Revd Dr William Morton says the project will secure the 800-year-old medieval building for generations to come.
Speaking at the event, the Dean remarked: “The support of €1.2 million from the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage to the roof project of Saint Patrick's Cathedral was essential to its successful completion."
