Dublin Port Company has been told it must pay over a million euro in vacant site levies.
The €1.1 million euro in backdated fees relate to a site owned by the port on East Wall Road near its Tunnel Control Building.
The land was added to Dublin city council's vacant site register in 2018 and was valued at €4 million in 2019.
Dublin Port Company appealed requests for four payments to An Bord Pleanála but the planning authority has upheld the decision saying the plot has been neglected according to the Business Post.
As part of the appeal, the port said a development feasibility study for 90 homes on the plot of land has been carried out and a plan was in place to sell the site.
In a statement it says it's disappointed with the decision; "In accordance with our submission, we remain disappointed that the site was included in the vacant site levy. We will take some time to consider the An Bord Pleanála decision.
"Dublin Port Company (DPC) were in discussions with the Land Development Agency about the Polefield Site during the period from 2019-2022 for redevelopment for residential use. However, due to a change in the zoning, the sale could no longer proceed."
