He's asking the Government not to shut them down as they consider level 5 restrictions

Dublin personal trainer, Ross Byrne, is asking the Irish Government to deem Gyms and Leisure centres essential businesses, should the country enter level 5 restrictions.

Byrne, from Stepaside in Dublin, took to Instagram to share his concerns that the closure of Gyms and Leisure facilities is not in the interest of public safety and will only add to the issues surrounding Covid-19.

The personal trainer wrote to government leaders, appealing for them to consider keeping fitness facilities open and outlining why these services are essential to people in these difficult times.

Ross also says he's doing it for his own mental health as well as that of the public.

"I am not a gym owner. The gyms remaining opening serve me little monetary gain outside of giving me an opportunity to continue serving those under my guidance as clients. Irrespective of gyms closures, I will continue to serve them in any way I can. I do this as representative of the people. One with hope".#

It comes as Government meet to discuss further restrictions

Government leaders are meeting this afternoon to consider moving the country to Level 5, after a recommendation from NPHET.

Such a move could see people being asked to stay within 5km of their home, and only essential retailers would stay open.
