A Dublin maternity hospital has made more than 50 calls to pest controllers since last year.

Specialists were brought in at the Coombe Women's Hospital 52 times.

31 calls were made during 2018 to deal with the likes of rodents, ants, wasps, silverfish and bluebottles. That's according to information released to the Irish Times under the freedom of information act.

While 21 calls were made to specialists between January and the end of August this year.

Recent rodent sightings have forced certain rooms to be closed off as a result according to the paper. However the hospital says there are no current issues with rodents.

There are plans to relocate the Coombe to the site of the new national children's hospital at St James's to allow adult, paediatric and maternity services in one location.

However there are currently no funds for the move.
