A Dublin man wanted in the Netherlands to serve time for his role in the killing of another Irish man has been refused bail ahead of his extradition hearing.
Barry McArdle, from Drimnagh, was sentenced to over twelve years in prison for the manslaughter of Keith Ennis, and the disposal of his body.
Keith Ennis’ dismembered remains were found in a suitcase that was pulled out of a canal in Amsterdam in 2009.
He was on the run from gardaí at the time, having been charged with gun and drug offences.
Barry McArdle was one of two men convicted of his manslaughter and of helping to dispose of his remains.
He lost an appeal against his conviction, and is now wanted by Dutch authorities to serve his sentence in the Netherlands.
The 34 year old evaded arrest for three months last year, so gardaí objected to his bail application today for fear he’d go to ground again.
His barrister told the court his client’s circumstances had changed. He said he’s now married, has a medical condition that affects his mobility, and has been co-operative this time round, however the judge refused bail and remanded him in custody ahead of his extradition hearing later this month.
