The Nobel peace prize winner and former SDLP leader passed away in the early hours of yesterday morning at the age of 83 after suffering from Dementia for some time.
Tributes have been paid by world leaders for the role he played in helping to bring peace to Northern Ireland.
The Lord Mayor of Dublin, Hazel Chu, says she will open a book of condolence online;
"He wasn’t just the architect of the peace process, he was a civil rights campaigner, a Nobel Peace Prize winner, a husband, a father, but most of all an Irishman who wanted us not to be trapped in the past but to have a future of peace."
Councillor Chu went on to say; "We would not have the Ireland we have today without him."
John Hume's funeral mass will be held in Derry tomorrow in accordance with public health guidance.
The public's being asked to stay at home, and those wishing to pay their respects are being urged to light a candle of peace at 9pm tonight, in his memory.
