The Lord Mayor of Dublin Paul Mc Auliffe will today urge parents not to buy quad bikes or scramblers for their children this Christmas.
Provisional Road Safety Authority figures show 50 people were killed or injured in crashes involving them on roads in recent years.
24 or 48% were 18 years of age or under.
There were five fatal collisions involving the off road vehicles between 2014 and 2018. Another forty five people were injured.
"These vehicles are dangerous, they not only can hurt people but they kill."Chairperson of the Dublin City Joint Policing Committee, Councillor Mary Fitzpatrick, says quad bikes and scramblers are a risk:
She is appealing to Dubliners not to use the vehicles in residential areas, in parks, along the canals or rivers.
