At least 8,000 flats in Dublin need to be brought up to mandatory EU standards at a cost of €2 billion.

The City Council needs to have all of its housing stock at certain energy standards by 2050.

To meet the deadline, around 240 flats will have to be processed every year, according to the Irish Times.

Some complexes are set to be demolished and replaced, while others will undergo a retrofitting programme.
