Dublin city council has begun a review into the operations of a dog pound over animal welfare concerns.
It comes as Gardaí investigate allegations about the improper use of drugs, used to euthanise animals, at Ashton pound in west Dublin.
The Irish Times reports the city council and Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council have started reviews into the facility, which provides dog warden services to the local authorities.
Last week a number of Green Party councillors wrote to DCC asking it to be prepared to review its contract and look for alternative services.
