Almost 4000 noise complaints were made to Dublin Airport in the first half of 2019.

However, 3,100 of those were lodged by one person.

The resident, who lives in the Ongar area, has contacted the DAA an average of 17 times a day so far this year.

Dublin Airport says 82% of the noise complaints it received between January and June came from the same person.

It says, excluding repeat complaints, it was contacted a little over 300 times about noise in the first six months of the year.

dublin airport complaintsAs part of its attempts to be transparent, Dublin Airport publishes noise complaints on its website each month.

In June, it said it took 783 noise complaints received from 37 individuals.

Most of those lived in the St. Margaret’s, Portmarnock and Ongar areas.

Two individuals from Ongar lodged 604 and 88 complaints, while another two people from The Ward lodged 18 and
13 complaints each.

Following the dramatic rise in noise complaints, Dublin Airport has investigated if anything has changed that would create the impression of more noise.

It said its "flight procedures/flight path for runway 28 have remained the same for at least the past 15 years", however it admitted the number of planes flying has increased.

Dublin Airport said it "has been operating a robust noise complaints procedure since its noise and flight track monitoring system was installed in 2001".

It promises that "every single complaint is acknowledged and is investigated".

A spokesperson for Dublin Airport said flight track reports for 21016, 2017 and 2018 have been made available to the repeat complainer in Ongar.

"The reports show that there has been no change in the tracks taken by aircraft during that period", a statement said.

Work has begun on a second runway at Dublin Airport, known as the North Runway, which is expected to open in 2022.

Dublin Airport was granted permission for it on the basis that it further restricts the number of planes that take-off and land at the airport between 11pm and 7am.

Airport management are hoping to get the restriction changed, so that early morning flights can take-off before 7am.
