Wheatfield Prison had the biggest number of drug, weapon and phone seizures of all Irish jails last year.
Up to December 14th, there were more than 1,224 drug seizures across the prison network last year. That's an increase of over 200 on 2017.
The biggest number was at Wheatfield Prison with 479, a jump of 76 on 2018, according to the Irish Examiner.
That was followed by Mountjoy with 229 seizures and Cloverhill with 183.
945 phones were found across the prison network. That's down slightly on the year before with Wheatfield again having the highest number of seizures at 298.
While the Clondalkin jail accounted for 127 of the 533 weapons seized last year.
The Irish Prison Service has been working in recent years to cut down on the contraband making its way into jails. Nets have been introduced at exercise yards, x-ray machines have been installed while sniffer dogs are also used.
