People are being encouraged to stay away from other people's cats and dogs as it could spread Covid-19.
Touching someone else's pet with your hands could transfer the disease to the animal's fur.
They could then bring it home, possibly spreading the illness to vulnerable or older people.
Former president of Veterinary Ireland is Dr Alan Rossiter;
"Somebody could cough on your cat if your cat walked in and that person that coughed on your cat had the virus, there could be the virus on the coat."
But he says the likelihood of it happening is minimal;
"Now that said if you are cocooning, if you feel like you're at a high risk, I mean just keep your cat in if you want to minimise the risk."
Tiger Tests Positive For Covid-19
Earlier this week, it emerged a tiger had tested positive for Covid-19 at a zoo in New York.
The Bronx Zoo said six other lions and tigers were also showing symptoms of the virus.
The US Department of Agriculture, which carried out the test, said it believed the cats caught the virus off a zookeeper.
The big cats are all expected to recover.
