It's hoped a meeting today with the Taoiseach's City Centre Taskforce will lead to a revamp of Moore Street.

The Moore Street Preservation Trust is holding talks with Chair of the taskforce David McRedmond to call for the development of a 1916 Cultural Quarter in the area.

It says this would renew and rejuvenate the north inner city.

Spokesperson for the group James Connolly Heron says there is great potential for a Cultural Quarter.

"The historic Moore Street 1916 battlefield site and the traditional street market are crucial in any approach to improving the centre of our capital city. Property speculation has led to the deterioration of the area and only action in the public interest, rather than for private commercial gain, can turn it around."
