Dublin city councillors will vote on plans to redevelop O'Devaney Gardens today.

There are concerns the long awaited overhaul of the flat complex off the North Circular Road could be blocked.

The plan includes more than 800 homes. Developer Bartra Capital is to sell around half of them privately.

The rest will be made up of social units and affordable homes. The affordable properties are expected to go for around €300,000, previously it was suggested they could cost as much as €420,000.

However councillors say the price tag for the affordable homes is too high while others have called for the entire development to be kept in public ownership.

Built in 1954, the public housing complex originally consisted of 278 homes across thirteen four-storey blocks.
