A state remembrance ceremony for the victims of the Stardust disaster has been announced.
It will take place on Sunday June 23rd to remember the 48 people who died in the fire at the nightclub in Artane in Dublin in 1981.
In April, an inquest ruled they were unlawfully killed.
Antoinette Keegan survived the blaze but lost two of her sisters in the disaster. She says the President and other dignitaries are expected to attend;
"We've never ever had anything like that before. We've never had a flower from the government, let alone a wreath being laid, we've never had any acknowledgment whatsoever. So it's a big momentous day for us."
Taoiseach Simon Harris says he will lead the government attendees at the official event;
"This will be a moment to remember those who lost their lives but I also hope it will be a moment for those injured, those who fought to save lives and those who fought for decades to have the 48 victims and their good names fully vindicated."
Simon Harris says he hopes the ceremony, along with the official state apology delivered in the Dáil, "will show 2024 to be the year where Ireland put right our duty to all involved in Stardust."
