Cruinniú na nÓg, a day encouraging children's creativity, is underway today.
Concerts, workshops and celebrations are being held nationwide, with the event supported by Creative Ireland.
The activities are completely free, making Ireland the only country in the world with a day like it.
Creative Ireland's Shelia Deegan says the event is programmed by young people - for young people.
She says: "There are 50 music generation performances taking place, all led and delivered by young people.
"There is a stage in Athlone that's showcasing all the up-and-coming bands.
"It's young people being given the opportunity to express their own creativity."
Releasing your creative genius
There are also taster events for various activities taking place, to allow children to discover their inner creative genius.
Ms Deegan said: "You might have thought - 'I'd love to join a youth theatre but how do I go about that?'
"You can do a taster workshop to find out if that's the thing for you or not. And of course, it's lots of fun too."
