Crimes like burglaries, robberies and thefts are most likely to go unsolved in the greater Dublin region than in other parts of the country.

It follows an analysis of CSO figures from 2018 in today's Irish Examiner.

One of the six Garda divisions in Dublin had the lowest detection rates for most crime categories.

Almost 67,000 theft offences were recorded nationwide in 2018. However just a third were classified as solved.

Below average detection rates were recorded in five of the six Dublin divisions. While detection rates for burglaries were as low at 7 per cent in the Dublin West Garda division.

That compares with 33 per cent in Kerry.

Dublin and Kildare had the lowest number of solved cases when it came to robberies.

Nationally 11 per cent of sexual offences cases were solved. That fell to 6 percent in Dublin East and Dublin West.
