The cost of buying food supplements will rise later this year.
From March, a 23% VAT rate will be applied to vitamins, minerals and fish oils.
At the moment, they're not subject to any VAT.
Health food traders have hit out at the decision to introduce the 23% rate on food supplements.
They say the increase, which is due to come in on March 1st, will "destroy 2,000 jobs".
The Irish Health Trade Association is calling on the Finance Minister to reverse the changes.
Concern has also been raised for people who rely on taking vitamins as part of their diet.
However, Minister Paschal Donohoe has defended the decision in the Dáil.
Traders say nobody is able to explain the rationale behind the decision to increase the cost of food supplements.
