Some coronavirus restrictions are being eased from today.

The 2km distance is being extended to 5km, while those cocooning are allowed out for brief exercise.

Another 16 deaths from Covid-19 were reported in the Republic yesterday, along with 266 new cases.

It’s hoped more restrictions will be eased in two weeks, including allowing builders back on site.

John Hunt from Enterprise Ireland says they’re examining how construction sites can be made safe;

"They're working on safe sites and protocols. Two metre distancing around site entries and exits and around welfare facilities are common through all these guidelines, right down to the bring your own pen to site to sign in."

Pubs

Pubs may be allowed to open earlier than planned if they can stick to strict social-distancing rules.

They're not due to reopen until August 10th, but this may be brought forward to the end of June.

Two representative groups are hoping new arrangements could see pubs opening from the end of June, along with cafes and restaurants.
