A traffic-free Capel Street could be delayed unless there's compromise with city centre businesses.
The warning comes ahead of the initiative being introduced in the north inner city next month.
Under the plan, cars will be banned from the majority of Capel Street, from Parnell Street as far as the junction with Strand Street, making it the longest pedestrianised street in the capital.
Despite successful summer trials, not everyone is in favour of the move with the Herald reporting that Jervis Shopping Centre has written to its tenants over its concerns.
Business group Dublin Town says it welcomes the focus on Capel Street but that it's aware of the differing views traffic-free status can bring.
It believes a compromise can be found and has called for interactive dialogue between all shareholders.
Dublin Town CEO Richard Guiney says the current plan could result in objections and legal action that could delay the changes;
"Our understanding from engaging with people is that the 24/7 pedestrianisation wouldn't have the support of the majority of businesses but there's certainly scope for coming to a solution that has some and pershaps a lot of pedestrianisation."
