Dublin Town says it's concerned that the Covid-19 restrictions that were announced yesterday will lead to more businesses closing in the coming weeks.
The group that represents 2,500 city centre businesses says footfall is already struggling and that the advice to avoid public transport is only expected to cut the numbers coming into the capital even further.
Dublin Town says before Covid two-thirds of people travelling in to shop or socialise used the bus, train or tram to do so.
The organisation wants to know to what extent has a link between using public transport and the spread of the virus been established.
Meanwhile people are being asked to stay working at home where possible.
CEO Richard Guiney says the return of office workers is of vital importance to the city centre economy;
"Without the return of office workers, and with the public being discouraged from using public transport, recovery from the Covid19 lockdown will be made even more challenging for businesses"
He says many businesses in Dublin city are considering permanent closure in September, with others waiting until December.
Richard Guiney says the latest restrictions and enhanced uncertainty "may hasten this decision".
