The iconic shelters along Clontarf promenade are to become protected structures.

The art deco structures, that have portholes and a curved roof, were built in the 1950s.

It follows a motion put forward by Green Party councillor Donna Cooney.

Dublin city council, which owns the concrete shelters, says they have been given a regional rating by the National Inventory of Architectural Heritage due to their special Architectural, Social and Technical interest.

They will now be proposed to be added to the council's Record of Protected Structures.
