Dublin city councillors are being urged to reject a proposal to sell off a recycling plant in Ballymount.
Trade union Fórsa says a review on bringing waste collections back under the council's remit should be concluded before a decision is made about the centre.
A working group is currently looking at the idea of bin services being taken over by the local authority after they were privatised in 2012.
Councillors will discuss disposing of the facility at tonight's monthly council meeting. It's one of a number of council owned plots that are being considered for sale.
National Secretary Peter Nolan says it makes no sense to allow the sale to go ahead as things stand;
“At the very least, we are calling on councillors of all parties and none to defer this decision until the work of the sub-group is complete.
If Ballymount is sold, it will be more difficult to move away from the current system of unregulated private waste collection, which has led to a chaotic market, increased costs and a huge growth in illegal dumping."
The Ballymount plant, which is jointly owned by the four Dublin local authorities, is currently operated by a private company.
