Some churches may use a booking system to facilitate mass at Christmas time.

The measure is suggested by Government ahead of churches reopening tomorrow when the country enters level three.

Services are to be limited to 50 people, although some large churches may be permitted to have more.

Restrictions

And while from December 18th, restrictions on household visitors will ease somewhat, still only 50 people will be able to attend mass at any one time.

The logistical challenges that many parish's face is likely to mean Christmas mass will be watched online at home this year for many.

St Mary's Church in Westport is operating on a first come, first served basis, while a parish in Sligo is considering streaming it's mass into a community hall to allow more parishioners to gather safely.
