Roads around Christchurch Cathedral have re-opened following a security alert.
Gardai and the army bomb squad were called in this afternoon, amid reports a suspicious device was found.
A firework in "strange packaging" has been removed from the scene.
The scene has since been declared safe, and has re-opened to pedestrians and traffic.
The Army Bomb Disposal Team says it was tasked to carry out "a post-blast analysis".
It found "the presence of firework remnants in suspicious wrapping".
People had been told to stay away from the area, and diversions were in place for a number of hours.
