Stars have lead tributes
Michael K. Williams, who played Omar Little in The Wire and Chalky White in Boardwalk Empire has died aged 54.
The New York Police Department confirmed that the actor was found dead earlier this week inside of his Brooklyn home.
Williams was a regular on many acclaimed HBO series, including The Night Of and Lovecraft Country and had a recurring role on J.J. Abrams’ Alias.
He also acted in acclaimed films including 12 Years a Slave, Gone Baby Gone and The Road.
The actor received Emmy nods for his work, including his performances in When They See Us, The Night Of and Bessie.
He’s currently in Emmy contention for outstanding supporting actor in a drama series for his work on Lovecraft Country.
HBO said in a statement: “We are devastated to learn of the passing of Michael Kenneth Williams, a member of the HBO family for more than 20 years.
"While the world is aware of his immense talents as an artist, we knew Michael as a dear friend who was beloved by all who had the privilege to work with him.
"We send our deepest condolences to his family for this immeasurable loss.”
Wendell Pierce, who starred as Detective Bunk Moreland in The Wire, wrote online: "The depth of my love for this brother, can only be matched by the depth of my pain learning of his loss.
"A immensely talented man with the ability to give voice to the human condition portraying the lives of those whose humanity is seldom elevated until he sings their truth."

Isiah Whitlock Jr., who played Clay Davis in the series, wrote: "Shocked and saddened by the death of Michael K. Williams.
"One of the nicest brothers on the planet with the biggest heart. An amazing actor and soul. May you RIP. God bless."
