Paul Mescal teams up with Pieta
Ever since Normal People hit our screens last month the two stars of the show have shot to fame.
Now Maynooth native Paul Mescal is using his new found status for good.
The actor has teamed up with Pieta to raffle off one of Connell's silver chains.
The postponement Darkness into Light has left the Irish charity with a 'very significant funding gap this year.'
Pieta relies on the public for 80% of its funding to ensure they can provide continuous availability of their national mental health service free of charge.
"Pieta is a cause very close to my heart, having experienced loss due to suicide in my local town while growing up."
However, in less than 24 hours the fundraiser has already raised €16,000!
Speaking on the raffle Mescal said, "I am delighted to be able to help out Pieta by raffling off my chain that has taken on a following of its own since Normal People hit television screens.
"Pieta is a cause very close to my heart, having experienced loss due to suicide in my local town while growing up."
Mescal continued, "Episode 10 of Normal People also touches upon depression and suicidal ideation, so it seemed like a very special partnership to want to help those in similar situations."
"I want to play my part in helping sustain these free services across Ireland."
You can buy raffle entries in groups of ten, starting from €10.
Entries will close at 2pm on Monday 8th of June.
The winner will be selected at random at 3pm via a live stream from Pieta’s Facebook.
