She's back from space, safe and sound!

Katy Perry has safely returned to Earth after reaching space today.

The 'Firework' singer was a part of an all-female crew sent into space by Jeff Bezos’ space company, Blue Origin.

Also onboard were Bezos's fiancée Lauren Sánchez, CBS presenter Gayle King, NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, bioastronautics research scientist Amanda Nguyễn and film producer Kerianne Flynn.

This was the New Shepard rocket's 11th human mission.

It lifted off from its West Texas launch site just after 08:30 local time (14:30 BST).

The flight lasted around 11 minutes and took the women more than 100km (62 miles) above Earth, crossing the internationally recognised boundary of space and giving them a few moments of weightlessness.

Upon landing and exiting the spacecraft, Katy kissed the ground and lifted a daisy to the sky - her daughter is called Daisy.

Gayle King revealed that the popstar would not sing Firework or Roar, as she didn’t want the historic moment to be about her, but sang a snippet of Louis Armstrong's "What a Wonderful World".

Speaking to Elle in the buildup to the launch, Katy said she “wanted to go to space for almost 20 years.”

She even created a playlist for the journey and declared that “space is going to finally be glam.”

Katy told the Associated Press she has “always been interested in astrophysics and interested in astronomy and astrology and the stars,” and added she wants to “inspire young girls to go, ‘I’ll go to space in the future.’”
