Even though she only appeared in one scene, many Friends fans will remember Isabella Rossellini from her iconic cameo in one episode back in Season 3.
But the movie star herself didn’t think she was famous enough to warrant such a cameo!
“I was surprised because at the time — maybe still today, but maybe to less extent at the time — there weren't many foreign actors that were recognised in America," the Italian actress told Entertainment Weekly in a recent interview.
“And so I was very surprised that Friends invited me, not only as a guest but as a star. They recognise me and they know my name. So I was very... I said, 'Really? Am I that known that I can play myself as a known person?' So that was really great and it was a delight to work with them.”
The actress featured in the famous episode first by name when the friends were compiling lists of celebrities they were “allowed” to sleep with.
Ross initially had the Italian actress on his list but subsequently bumped her off after being told she was “too international” and it was unlikely he’d ever bump into her.
Which of course led to a scene near the end of the episode where the woman herself makes a casual appearance at the coffee house.
Typical for Ross, the exchange with himself and Isabella does not go well when he presents her with the list and she sees she’s been bumped off it.
