Uggie the dog, who woofed his way to fame in 2011 in the Oscar-winning film The Artist, has died.
The Jack Russell terrier was put to sleep on Friday at the age of 13. He had been suffering from a prostate tumour.
Uggie played Jean Dujardin's dog in The Artist and also appeared with Robert Pattinson in Water for Elephants. He retired in 2012, and released his own memoirs.
Uggie won the "Palm Dog" award for best actor at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival, and was the first dog to leave his paw prints on the cement outside the Chinese Theatre in Hollywood.
"Palm Dog" organisers have paid tribute to Uggie, calling him "a special little Jack Russell who gave pleasure to millions".
