Brad Pitt has released a statement after his wife Angelina Jolie filed for divorce yesterday. In it, he expresses his sadness at the turn of events. It reads: "I am very saddened by this, but what matters most now is the well-being of our kids. I kindly ask the press to give them the space they deserve during this challenging time."
Angelina filed the documents on Monday, citing irreconcilable differences.
Angelina's lawyer released a statement on her behalf, which reads: "This decision was made for the health of the family. She will not be commenting, and asks that the family be given its privacy at this time."
Angelina and Brad began dating in 2004, after they met on the set of the film Mr. and Mrs. Smith.
While on set for that movie, Brad was married to former Friends actress Jennifer Aniston, before they were divorced in 2005.
They eventually married in August 2014, and went on to have 6 children together.
