The full pedestrianisation of Dublin's Capel Street could be prevented from going ahead.
A public consultation found almost 80 per cent of people were in favour of making the street permanently car-free after a number of weekend trials.
But the Irish Times reports a new civic plaza planned for nearby Liffey Street will require access for traffic along part of Capel Street.
Work on the public space opposite the Ha'penny bridge is due to start in mid-April.
Green party councillor Janet Horner says a more comprehensive plan is needed to deliver both. She says she's been given assurance both projects are still going ahead;
"It is possible to do both together and we want to see the council bring forward a plan that provides for both and doesn't put us into a situation where we have to compromise the upgrade and improvements of one street in order to facilitate another one."
Councillors are to be briefed on the plans for Liffey Street this week.
