Boxer and medal hope Brendan Irvine will miss the European Games, which start in Minsk, Belarus this Friday.

The Olympic Federation of Ireland will send 63 athletes, with Joe Ward another notable absentee following his decision to turn professional.

Irvine won a light flyweight silver at the Games four years ago but is injured this time around.

Competition begins on Friday, with boxer Regan Buckley the first of the Irish in action, along with teammates Tony Browne and Dean Gardiner. Maeve Reidy will also be competing in the Archery.

The European Games take place from the 21st to the 30th June, with athletes competing across nine sports, five of which are part of the Tokyo 2020 qualification journey.

Ireland's leading Tokyo medal hope, Kellie Harrington, is in this month's squad.
