The average Dublin rent now stands at €2,044 a month, up almost 3.9 per cent on last year.

That's €76 euro a month more expensive than the same time in 2018, according to the latest Daft.ie rental report.

The most expensive place to rent is in Dublin 4, where the average cost is €2,500, up nearly 100% from it's lowest point almost a decade ago.

The cheapest rental market is in Leitrim where tenants can expect to pay around €616 a month.

Nationally the figure stands at €1,403.

Author of the report, Ronan Lyons, says despite this increase, rental inflation is at it's lowest level in 6 years;

"The number of rental ads coming onto the market is still incredibly low but the availability has improved a bit so people are finding other options."

He says people are staying at home, moving into owner occupied homes or living in new purpose built student accommodation.
