Government spending has been criticised by a leading architect, after homeless figures increased again.
There were 10,338 people in emergency accommodation last month.
That is 63 more than the month before.
3,838 children are now officially recorded as being homeless, a rise of 70 between July and August.
Architect Orla Hegarty doesn't believe the Government is spending money in the best way possible.
"In some cases, €400,000 or more is being spent on houses when they could have been produced for half of that".
She also said "we are entering into long-term contracts on leasing and public-private partnerships that are really poor value for money".
Two-thirds of those in emergency accommodation are in the Dublin area.
However regional breakdowns show its not just an issue in the capital.
There are 419 people homeless in Cork, 255 in Limerick, 311 in Galway and 112 in Waterford.
The figures will put more pressure on the Housing Minister Eoghan Murphy.
Sinn Fein's Housing Spokesperson Eoin O'Broin says the increases in children and families using homeless services shows the Government has 'failed to get to grips' with its causes.
