A fresh assessment of the repairs needed on the Iveagh Markets in Liberties is underway.
However talks on who owns the derelict building are rumbling on.
A survey to assess the state of the old Iveagh Markets on Francis Street, that has been empty for more than 20 years, began this week.
Noel Fleming from the Liberties Cultural Association says urgent repairs are needed, including fixing holes in the roof.
There have been plans to turn the old markets into a European style food hall but they’ve never got off the ground and a previous survey estimated repairs could cost €23m.
Councillor Michael Pidgeon says talks between the city council, the Guinness family who built the market and publican and hotelier Martin Keane are yet to be resolved.
Reports earlier this month suggested Mr Keane could regain possession of the site – paving the way for a covent garden style market and hotel.
