487 jobs are being axed at Arcadia Group in the Republic.

Workers are being made redundant at shops including Dorothy Perkins, Topshop, Topman, Wallis, Burtons Menswear, Miss Selfridge and Evans.

Mandate says the redundancies process will start from today at around 14 of Arcardia's stores.

Spokesperson for the union, Jonathan Hogan is very worried for the retail sector here:

"The old bricks and mortar traditional retail is changing before our eyes".

"It is certainly a concern for Mandate and the members we represent".

"We were hoping for the members impacted within the Arcadia group in Ireland that their jobs would be secured, but unfortunately it doesn't seem to be the case now".
