Anti-Racism Protest To Take Place in Ashtown

A protest will take place in Ashtown this evening following a racist attack on a group of homeless men over the weekend.

A number of men with dogs, sticks and a baseball bat reportedly attacked them at a campsite on the banks of the Tolka River on Saturday.

Organiser of the protest, Ruth Coppinger says the demonstration will get underway at Ashtown Railway Station at 6 o'clock.

''We know that Ashtown is a very diverse community, it's a very anti-racist community.''

''The fact that something like this happened very closeby - that these men were physically attacked and scared...it 's sending out a message not only to people that are homeless but everybody who is not Irish and living in this community. The far right want to divide people.''
