An alternative plan for the development of Moore Street in Dublin goes on public display later this morning.
Hammerson, the UK property firm behind the redevelopment of the 5.5-acre plot between O’Connell Street and Moore Street, was given six months by Dublin City Council to revise its plans for the site in July.
The council is opposing the demolition of buildings on nearby Henry Street and is seeking reductions to the height of the development.
An alternative regeneration plan for the 1916 Easter Rising site will be unveiled this morning, which includes the creation of museums, galleries and public courtyard.
Sinn Féin councillor Mícheál Mac Donncha, who is secretary of the Moore Street Preservation Trust, says the high rise shopping and office development planned for the area shouldn't go ahead;
"Our plan would preserve original buildings, sensitively develop them. It would also feature museums, art galleries, cafes and living accommodation as well."
The Heritage minister Darragh O'Brien and Dublin City Council are being asked to endorse the alternative plan.
