Workers at Dublin Airport have been given some clarity on the integration of the Defence Forces.

A union representing DAA workers has given them assurances.

SIPTU has said jobs won't be affected by the deployment of the Defence Forces at Dublin Airport.

As was widely known, the army will only be deployed in the event of a spike of covid infections amongst DAA staff.

SIPTU has said any workers in the Vehicle Control Posts area won't be required to train up defence forces members.

The union also assured members that they won't work alongisde army personnel.

Aviation Sector Organiser, Niall Phillips, said in a statement that the contingency plan is specifically Covid related.

He said it will be triggered in the event of a spike in infections among airport security officers where the related absenteeism exceeds 20% of scheduled staff.

Phillips added that the contingency plan will be in place for a limited period from the 6th July until the 15th of August.

The DAA confirmed to SIPTU that no threat to jobs would come as a result of the outsourcing.
