Ireland's good start to the World Amateur Championships in Almaty Kazakhstan continued today. Belfast lightweight Sean McComb booked his place in the last-32 with a convincing victory over Almog Briga. The Holy Trinity BC fighter earned a unanimous (30-27,30-27,30-26) decision over the Israeli who went down under a right from the Irish champion in the opening round. McComb will now face Gildas Bangana of the Central Africa Republic on Sunday.

Former European champion Ray Moylette progressed on a split decsion (27-30,29-28,29-28) at the expense of Greek light-welter Alexandros Tsanikidis after three close rounds. Moylette lost the first on all three judges card, but the St Anne's BC man bounced back to win the next two frames, two of the three judges giving Moylette 10-9,10-9 scores.
