It's expected that visitor restrictions will remain in place at Beaumont Hospital and St Joseph's Hospital Raheny in Dublin into early next week.
It follows an outbreak of Norovirus at the two facilities.
The hospitals are requesting only essential visits between 6pm and 8pm each evening, with visitors limited to one per patient.
Children are being asked not to visit the hospitals until the restrictions are lifted.
Professor Edmund Smith, Consultant Microbiologist at Beaumont Hospital in Dublin, says members of the public are being asked to avoid visiting the hospitals unless it's absolutely necessary.
