The Justice Minister’s been given details of 16 people who claim they’ve been mistreated by the Gardai, the Garda Ombudsman and the courts.
They were handed over by a group including TD’s Clare Daly, Joan Collins, Luke Ming Flanagan and Mick Wallace.
However, the handover didn’t run smoothly.
The group of about 40 people gathered outside the Department of Justice to hand in the details of their cases to the Justice Minister Alan Shatter…
However it didn’t run smoothly – Pat Fitzpatrick, who’s the Parliamentary Assistant for Luke Ming Flanagan explains how the department refused to send somebody down to collect the submissions, and also would not supply a receipt at the desk when it was handed in..
But after a number of phone calls to the Minister’s office there was a u-turn and his private secretary took the submissions in one by one.
The group hope that the Minister will stay true to his word and review their cases – it’s hoped that this will lead to a reform of the justice system.
