A hand gun was pointed at gardai and two garda cars rammed - during a high speed chase in Clondalkin yesterday.
Two men were arrested after the dramatic scenes which happened in the early hours of the morning. The drama began when a high powered Audi failed to stop for gardai at a checkpoint on the New Nangor Road. Gardai gave chase and a large number of patrol units joined the high speed persuit which continued for over half an hour - ending at Woodford Walk.
During that time - two garda cars were rammed several times and one garda found himself looking at a pointed handgun.
Shortly afterwards a man was arrested - with a gun - and a second youth believed to be in the speeding car was also detained.
Reports in today's Herald newspaper, claim gardai stumbled upon a local gangster from the so-called 'infamous D22 gang' - credited with causing mayhem in the area in recent weeks. Local sources say it was 'a miracle no one was hurt'.
