The commemoration ceremony for the foundation of the Irish Volunteers was held at the Garden of Remembrance in Dublin this morning.
The event marked 100 years since the founding of the Irish volunteers.
President Michael D Higgins and the Taoiseach Enda Kenny are in attendence and over three hundred members of the defence forces are taking part in the ceremony.
Nial Ring, Independent Councillor for Dublin's North Inner City said his Grandfather and four granduncles were founder members of the Irish Volunteers.
