Paddy Barnes booked his place in the last 16 of the World Championships in Kazakhstan. The double Olympic medalist beat Serbian Milos Baltic to advance in the 52 kg division. One judge gave all three rounds to Barnes - the other 2 gave it to him by one round. The Belfast fighter will now meet Kenya's Simon Nzioki for a place in the last-eight next Tuesday.
Mayo’s Ray Moylette bowed out after dropping a unanimous decision to Ermek Sakenov of Kyrgyzstan in the light-weltereight class. The Asian southpaw, a bronze medalist at the 2013 Asian Championships, earned a 30-27, 30-27,30-27 decison across the board against the 2011 European champion.
