One of the biggest taxi apps in the country says it's seeing twenty to thirty new drivers joining up each week.
But the Country Manager for Free Now in Ireland says it comes on the back of a 30% reduction in drivers over the last decade.
Niall Carson says simplifying the geography part of the test could help add more cabs on the roads.
He says they'd like to see more people encouraged into the industry:
"We have seen greater supports in place as of the start of September through the NTA. But also, looking at the modernisation and electrification of the fleet, I think Ireland has an opportunity to be a standard bearer in Europe by having a fully electric taxi fleet. It's a commitment we've made - by 2030 we'd like to see that."
The Free Now EV Roadshow takes place day in the RDS, and people looking to join the industry are being encouraged to attend.
